The headline fixture of this weekend’s Premier League action comes to us live from the Etihad Stadium, where league champions Manchester City will lock horns with the number-one contenders over the last two seasons Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. The Citizens and Gunners are at it again this season and will enter this match in first and second place in the league standings respectively. To the prediction!
These giants of England will resume domestic league duty this weekend following the opening round of this season’s Champions League in midweek. Both teams played out goalless draws, with Man City held at home by Inter Milan, while Arsenal came away from Atalanta’s Gewiss Stadium with a share of the spoils.
Both sides are set to put their unbeaten league records this season on the line when they clash in Manchester. A win for the hosts would see them pull five points clear of the visitors, while a victory for the Gunners would help them leapfrog the Sky Blues into the lead in the Premier League standings. Manchester City - Arsenal: Form Analysis
Manchester City are well on their way to what would be a record-extending fifth consecutive Premier League title. They've come through the first four matchdays with a flawless four wins from four, following their Community Shield victory over cross-town rivals Manchester United last month.
The Citizens have beaten Chelsea, Ipswich Town, West Ham United, and most recently recorded a 2-1 home win over Brentford. During that period, City scored 11 goals which included two or more in each of those four matches.
At home, Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in 32 consecutive Premier League matches dating back to December 2022. This includes having won each of their last six on the trot, though they’ve not kept a clean sheet over that period.
Erling Haaland has scored nine of Man City’s 11 goals this season, including back-to-back hat-tricks!
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also made a solid start to the season, notching up 10 points from their first four games. Among those were wins over Wolves, Aston Villa and most recently a 1-0 away victory over arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby.
The only points the Gunners have left on the table were against Brighton & Hove Albion in week three, where they were forced to play a large chunk of the match with 10 men after Declan Rice was sent for an early shower.
While City are the favourites at the books, it was Mikel Arteta’s men that excelled in this contest last season, earning four points in the two league encounters, winning their home match and drawing goalless at this venue.

Manchester City & Arsenal Squad Analysis
Manchester City were dealt a significant injury blow in midweek, with their chief creator Kevin De Bruyne suffering a groin injury against Inter Milan and the Belgian is likely to sit out this weekend’s fixture.
Joining De Bruyne on the sidelines are Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb, who are ruled out with a hamstring and leg injury respectively, which will likely mean Phil Foden will make his first start of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Martin Odegaard is set for a “few weeks” out due to an ankle injury!
The Gunners’ skipper sustained the knock on international duty, and while the degree of the injury was ambiguous at first, Arteta provided confirmation of the Norwegian’s absence ahead of their midweek clash with Atalanta.
Other players that will be forced into a watching brief this weekend include new signing Mikel Merino (shoulder), Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) and Kieran Tierney (hamstring).
On a positive note for the Gunners, Declan Rice will be eligible to return from his ban and Gabriel Jesus is available for selection having shaken off the groin strain he picked up ahead of the international break.

Our Manchester City vs Arsenal Prediction
While we know that both these teams have the personnel to score bucketloads on any given day, games between them tend to play out like chess matches. The result is often both teams nullifying the other’s threat tactically, as seen in each of the last three encounters.
We are expecting another titanic battle when these English powerhouses collide on Sunday. While there will be plenty of high-quality football on display, clear-cut chances will be at a premium. Our Manchester City vs Arsenal prediction: Under 2.5!
Manchester City vs Arsenal - Other Interesting Predictions
Manchester City Under 1.5
While Manchester City, particularly Erling Haaland, have been rampant this season, Arsenal possess arguably the best defence in the Premier League and have yet to be breached in an away game. Additionally, the Gunners did not concede against City in either league match last season.
