The hosts currently sit atop the league standings, while the visitors are tenth. Sundowns will come into this match with their tails up after claiming a 2-0 win over Nouadhibou in the CAF Champions League over the weekend. That took them to the top of Group A in the continental competition and also assured them of a spot in the round of 16, six points clear of the side in third. In league terms, Sundowns played out a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates last time out, which took them to 39 points after 15 matches. The Brazilians are still nine points clear of their closest rivals Cape Town City, and have two games in hand. They are also the only side in the South African top flight that are still unbeaten at this stage of the season. The hosts beat this opponent 1-0 in the reverse fixture back in December and are the clear favourites heading into this match. 

Meanwhile, Amazulu secured their place in the round of 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Royal AM last weekend. The match remained deadlocked until the final five minutes when Hendrick Ekstein managed to find the all-important goal to keep his side in the competition. That result followed a 3-1 defeat to Cape Town City in the league, which snapped up a three-match unbeaten run, including two wins and a draw. Usuthu are now on 22 points after 17 games, seven points behind the top three and nine clear of Richards Bay in the relegation playoff spot. However, the visitors have been poor on the road this season. They have taken six points from a possible 21, winning just one match in that time and failing to score in three. Amazulu have failed to beat this opponent in their last three attempts, losing twice and drawing once.
