Two unseeded players meet in the first round of the Brisbane International. Magda Linette takes on McCartney Kessler in this WTA 500 outdoor hard court tournament. Who will make it in round two? Here's our match prediction.

The winner of this match will face the 14th seed Yulia Putintseva in the last 32. It's a tough draw as top seed Aryna Sabalenka is their scheduled opponent in the last 16. Linette is the world number 38 with her opponent 39 places lower down the list.

The 32-year-old Pole is playing her first tournament since the Ningbo Open in October where she lost in her first match. The tournament before that though, Linette had made it to the last eight of the Wuhan Open and also had good wins over Jasmine Paolini and Daria Kasatkina.

2024 has been a good year for Kessler as the year began with her only 217th in the rankings. Four titles have been won, the highest being in Cleveland four months ago. Five tournaments have been played since then but the American has only won two matches in one of them.
