Madison Keys, the 14th seed at the French Open, will take on unseeded Mayar Sherif in the second round of the competition. This is the first career meeting between them and the winner will play Sara Errani or Emma Navarro next. Madison Keys dropped just five games in her first-round contest against the unseeded Renata Zarazua. This was the fifth successive win for the American who arrived in Paris after her triumph in Strasbourg. Keys had a belated start to the season due to fitness concerns and started her campaign in March. She has been in excellent form since and has compiled a strong 15-5 record with 12 of her wins coming on clay. The world number 12 and former French Open semi-finalist lost in the second round last year.

Mayar Sherif has never progressed past the second round at the French Open. She has been eliminated in the second round in her last two appearances. The Egyptian will be eager to have this as the season she finally breaks this jinx. Sherif is also dominating on clay and has recorded all 16 wins she has managed on the surface. The 28-year-old, who has alternated between the tour and challenger circuits, arrived in Paris after finishing as runner-up in Rabat. She won all her matches at the tournament in straights and has carried that momentum here. Sherif relinquished just four games in the first round against world number 36 Yuan Yue. She has now won eight of her last 10 matches. Despite this excellent run of form, Sherif has dropped 17 places in the live ranking to 70th after losing 150 points.
