Lyon are still searching for their first points of the new Ligue 1 season as they gear for the home match against Strasbourg. Read on for our prediction as Les Gones take on sixth placed Le Racing in this matchday three encounter.

Lyon hoped for a better start to the campaign after their nightmare opening last season. The hosts managed just three points from the first nine league games in 2023/24. After losing 2-0 to Monaco last week, fears of another abysmal start flashed through the home fans.

That, after a 3-0 thumping at Rennes was the least of expectation for the side which finished last season on a high. Pierre Sage, who salvaged Lyon has now lost the equivalent of a third of his defeats last season. Sadly, this comes off the back of heavy spending on summer transfers.

Strasbourg do not relate with Lyon’s problems; their new boss Liam Rosenoir has engineered a good start. From the opening two matches, the visitors have four points.

After a poor run towards the end of last season, away fans will be thrilled by this start. They didn’t have the best of results in preseason but when it comes to serious business, the visitors have delivered so far.

In their most recent match, Strasbourg overcame Rennes 3-1. They had earlier drawn 1-1 with Montpellier, and will be looking to bag a second straight win here. This being the first game of Week 3, Strasbourg will go top of the standings with a win. In the last two meetings with Lyon, however, they failed to register a win.
