Luxembourg will on Friday host Malta in a friendly match geared to help both teams prepare for their upcoming Euro qualifiers. Malta are bottom in Group C while Luxembourg are second from bottom in Group J. Luxembourg and Malta have played each other four times prior to this latest encounter. So far Luxembourg are unbeaten against their Southern European counterparts winning three times and drawing once. The latest meeting took place in 2018 with Luxembourg running out 1-0 winners in Malta. Luc Holtz’s charges next play Liechtenstein in their Euro qualifying group where they will seek their first win with the match. Extending their unbeaten record against Malta will do them a world of good going into that match. The Red Lions come into this fixture without a win in their last four outings. They have lost just once in this run though. However, that loss was a 6-0 thumping by Portugal last time out that extended their search for a goal to three matches.

Malta have also gone consecutive matches without a win. Four to be exact with the last three ending in defeat. They lost 2-0 to Italy last time out. Malta host England next in the Euro qualifiers so will seek to work on their defence here to stave off England’s rampant attack. Michele Marcolini’s charges have kept just two clean sheets from their last 10 fixtures. On the opposite end of the pitch though, they have fared much better and have scored in seven of their last 10 outings. The Falcons have always struggled when playing away from home and since 2013 have claimed just four wins in 45 matches played. Considering this as well as their struggles against Luxembourg, this could be another upset for the Knights of Malta.
