Luke Littler will take on Nathan Aspinall in Round 2 at the 2026 World Matchplay on Tuesday evening. The Nuke has won eight of his last 10 matches against the Asp, and our prediction is that the teenager will progress to the next round from this clash.
Luke Littler kicked off his World Matchplay title defence with little fuss, beating Germany’s Niko Springer 10-6 in the opening round of the competition on Saturday night.
The Nuke pinned seven 180s to his opponent's two and recorded the second-highest three-dart average for the round (109.53). He also converted 43.48% of his checkout attempts (10/23).
The reigning champion has now won eight of his last 10 matches in all competitions. He has only lost four games since mid-April, all of which were against Luke Humphries.
Meanwhile, after a shocking first-round elimination in this competition last year, Nathan Aspinall avoided the same fate on Saturday by beating Josh Cullen 10-5 in his opening match.
The Asp pinned an excellent nine 180s and maintained a solid 105.32 three-dart average. He also converted 47.62% of his checkout attempts, including a stunning 167 highest checkout.
Aspinall has won seven of his last 10 matches in all competitions but only has three career wins against Littler.
