MLS side Los Angeles FC and Club America from Mexico’s Liga MX will face off in a one-legged playoff final to decide the 32nd team at the Club World Cup. With the first edition of the Club World Cup scheduled for June, we have the prediction for this playoff match below.
One may wonder why the two are playing this decider just weeks before the tournament! The slot these two are battling for was initially reserved for Club Leon. However, the Mexican side was thrown out of the competition by FIFA owing to an ownership rule breach. An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport was also rejected, and here we are.

Heading into this game, they are unbeaten in the last eight matches but have only managed three wins. While they’ve shown a great fighting spirit over the season, the Falcons have also struggled to tie down leads.
In their latest game, the Black and Gold rose from 2-0 down with goals from Marco Delgado and Olivier Giroud to draw 2-2 with Montreal. They’ve also been unconvincing defensively, with only two clean sheets in 10 matches.

LA FC are bidding to play in the Club World Cup for the first time ever. They may be newbies on that, but the team comprises players who have been at the pinnacle of world football.
In Hugo Lloris, they have a World Cup-winning goalkeeper. The 38-year-old will hope to do better here than in the MLS, where he conceded 17 times in 14 matches, keeping five clean sheets.
Another 38-year-old, Oliver Giroud, will also be relied upon for goals and experience. The Frenchman has only scored twice and assisted once in nine matches.
LAFC’s Denis Bouanga has scored three goals in the last four matches.
With so much at stake, any manager would want his best players available. For Club America, however, Andre Jardine doesn’t have that luxury. Mexican forward Henry Josue is still touch and go for this match as he continues with his recovery from an Achilles strain.
