Second seed Barbora Krejcikova’s quest for another Prague title continues against Lilli Tagger in the semi-finals. The prediction for their first career meeting leans toward Krejcikova, who’s lost just once in 12 outings.
Tagger is in the semi-finals of a tour event for the first time this season. This is also only the second time in her career that she has made it this far at a tour event. She won her previous semi-final, in Jiujiang last year.
A winner of 25 matches so far this season, Tagger will hope this is the week she becomes a tour champion. The teenager, yet to drop a set this week, defeated third seed Sara Bejlek in the last round. Thanks to her performances in the Czech capital, Tagger has risen to 58th in the live ranking.
Krejcikova has done well since her return to action in May after an injury layoff. The Czech star, a two-time Slam champion, spent almost three months out with injury during the early rounds of the season.
Since her return at the start of the clay campaign, she has won 20 of 25 fixtures. In this stretch, she has made it to three finals, winning one.
Currently on an eight-match winning streak, Krejcikova is the overwhelming favorite to win this week’s title. The 30-year-old, who won the 2021 Prague edition, defeated the qualifier Dominika Salkova in the last round.
