British wild card Liam Broady bids to reach round two in Eastbourne. To do so, he has to beat Yoshihito Nishioka who had to qualify to get into this main draw. In round two, the winner will take on either fifth seed (and defending champion) Francisco Cerundolo or unseeded Marcos Giron. Broady is 146th in the latest ranking list but last September was a career-high 93rd. The British player is down to 156th in the live rankings as he reached the last 16 of this grass court tournament in 2023. Broady is not having a good year and is just inside the top 450 in the Live ATP Race. This is his first tournament since March and recently missed the Nottingham tournament after banging his head on a car boot. He has had good form on grass with the third round at Wimbledon reached in both 2022 and 2023.

Yoshihito Nishioka is the world number 102 but is back in the top 100 at 98th in the live rankings. The Japanese player had to qualify for this main draw and did so without losing a set in his two matches. His final qualifier saw him defeat the second seed Aleksandar Vukic. Nishioka is playing his first grass court tournament of the year. His Wimbledon record isn't great with the second round reached just once in 2021 and that was the last time he's won on grass until this weekend's qualifiers. Those were two good wins and we believe he can beat Broady.
