Lens and Lyon start off their Ligue 1 campaigns with a clash hosted at Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Both sides had solid preseason engagements and will hope to carry the same to their league openers. Read on for our prediction of the match.

There has been a change in management at Lens, who will henceforth be led by former Lyon boss Pierre Sage. Les Sang et Or won four of their seven preseason matches and lost only one. By that, they will be confident of starting well.

Their hopes will be elevated by a busy summer of incoming transfers to boost the team as well as a four-game unbeaten run against Lyon. Lens have also managed two opening wins in the last three Ligue 1 seasons.

One element that has lacked at Lyon lately has been tranquility. Preseason has been as chaotic as their close to last season. In their last five league games, Les Gones suffered three defeats, though that’s not all that defined their final months of the last campaign.

Manager Paulo Fonseca was suspended for nine months and is still serving that touchline ban. Meanwhile, they successfully battled administrative relegation, which will pass as their biggest win in the past few months.

However, the French giants have had to do with key players leaving, including Ryan Cherki and Alex Lacazette.
