Two wild cards meet in round one of the hard court Belgrade Open. Stanislas Wawrinka faces Laslo Djere with the winner up against top seed Alex de Minaur in the next round. Here's our match prediction.
Stanislaw Wawrinka is 148th in the live rankings and that's eight places behind his opponent. The Swiss veteran hadn't won a hard court match this year until the recent Shanghai Masters. He has had some good results since then.
That included beating Andrey Rublev on his way to the semi-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. Last week didn't go so well though as he lost to world number 380 Dino Prezmic in the Bratislava Challenger Tour event.
To reach round two, Djere must beat Wawrinka for the first time. The pair met twice in 2022 (once on a hard court) with Wawrinka winning both of the matches and one having over 21.5 games played.
Djere is struggling for form at present and has lost his last three matches. His most recent loss was in Bratislava where he lost in three sets to Constant Lestienne. Each of his last three matches has seen a tie-break played.
