Laslo Djere vs Stan Wawrinka Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Italian Open

Stan Wawrinka is back on the tour and takes on qualifier Laslo Djere in the Rome Masters second round. The winner has a tough task ahead with Novak Djokovic waiting in the third round. Wawrinka began this week ranked 361 but this is only his third ATP Tour match in 14 months. The second of those was his defeat of 14th seeded Reilly Opelka in the first round of this tournament. Wawrinka won that in three sets after losing the first one. That was his first win of the year after losses in a Challenger Tour event and in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters. The 37-year-old had lost his last three matches in this tournament before his first round success. He'll want more time on the court as he tries to get into top shape for the French Open, which he won seven years ago.

Laslo Djere is ranked 59th and that's seven places below where he was in the list at the start of 2022. The Serb would love to win this match to set up a match against Djokovic. He played him recently in the last 16 of the Serbia Open and only lost in three sets. Djere has played well on clay in recent weeks. He got to the semi-finals in Marrakech and the last 16 in Monte Carlo, losing to eventual winner Stefanos Tsitsipas. Djere had to qualify to get into the main draw in Rome (Wawrinka has a protected ranking) and won both of his matches in straight sets. It was tougher in round one though as he beat Borna Coric (another with a protected ranking) in three sets, dropping the middle one on a tie-break. It'll be interesting to see how Wawrinka continues to get on this week but the tip is for a Djere win, possibly in three sets.
