La Vuelta - Stage 9 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta
by Matthew Newman |
The final stage before the final rest day has a number of hills, but only the one categorised climb, which is a Cat 1 and leads to the winning line. It looks like an interesting stage, so let's make a prediction.
There are a few sharp ramps in the early stages, which could see some punchy riders getting up the road. It will be very interesting to see who UAE send up the road. Jay Vine is the current King of the Mountains leader, and with the only points at the finish, it seems likely that he is going to be active in this stage.
Lorenzo Fortunato was in the same break as Vine on Stage 4, finishing on the podium in third. There are few in the peloton who enjoy getting up the road more than him, and an attack could well be forthcoming.
On Stage 7, it was Marco Frigo who got closest to Juan Ayuso on the final climb to the line. That suggests that he has plenty in the legs after the first week.
A rider who has looked good but perhaps is going under the radar is Junior Lecerf. There are probably going to be other stages that suit him better later on in the race, but he is worth noting as the big GC contenders won't worry if he attacks.

- There are 195.5km to cover on Stage 9 with a single climb to the finish.
- That climb is more than 13km long with over 3,100m of climbing during the stage.
- The climb starts hard but is easier closer to the top, which should make it another stage for a breakaway.
- Jay Vine was very impressive when he attacked on Stage 4, and the climb to the line is one that shapes like it will suit his change of pace.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 9 - La Vuelta prediction
This is a stage where perhaps not a lot will happen in the first 170km or so, but then it will all kick off up the final climb. There is likely to be a group that gets away earlier on in the stage, and if they can make it halfway up the climb with an advantage, they will fight it out between themselves.
With just one climb in the King of the Mountains competition, there are only points at the finish line. With that in mind, our La Vuelta Stage 9 prediction is Jay Vine each way.
