La Vuelta - Stage 6 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta

 by Matthew Newman |

Stage 6 is the first chance for the big boys to stretch their legs with a pair of Cat 1 climbs, a Cat 2 and a Cat 3. One of the Cat 1s is the climb to the line, so our prediction is going to look over some of the stronger climbers.

It's another day of guessing whether it will be a breakaway or the GC contenders that are going to take the stage win. We are marginally favouring the breakaway artists, but it would be no surprise to see the likes of Jonas Vingegaard, Juan Ayuso et al contesting the stage finish.

The breakaway didn't materialise on Stage 4 like we were hoping, but it's the same riders here who could be looking to get away. Wilco Kelderman could be the key here for those who like a bet in play. If he is allowed in the break, then it should be a day for the escapees; if he's kept back in the peloton, it could be that Visma's plan is to set up Vingegaard.

We have to mention Bruno Amirail again, as both he and Wout Poels get in as many breaks as they can, the latter especially on a difficult stage. Both seem viable candidates for going up the road.

The King of the Mountains jersey in the Giro went to Lorenzo Fortunato, who got himself involved in plenty of breakaways, and he is the type to get himself in a break again here to pick up some early points.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 6 - La Vuelta prediction

The first 11km of Stage 6 are up a Cat 3 climb. It is not the hardest one of the day by any stretch, but it is going to be enough to see plenty of riders try to get into the break for the day, with some tougher tests coming up later on in the stage.

It feels like a strong group of climbers will get away, and there could be any number of chances there. We are going to pin our colours to the mast of an Astana rider. Our La Vuelta Stage 6 prediction is Lorenzo Fortunato each way.
