La Vuelta - Stage 4 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta

Stage 4 of La Vuelta sees the race head out of Italy to France with the toughest stage so far. There is a lot of climbing in the early stages, so our prediction will look over some of the breakaway artists.
Jayco Alula are a team that loves to get into the breaks. Koen Bouwman attacked for them on Stage 1 and could be the man again, with Ben O'Connor and Michael Harper likely being saved for later in the race.
Jonas Vingegaard won't need much protection on this sort of stage, so it will be interesting to see if Visma allow the likes of Wilco Kelderman or Victor Campenaerts their head to get in the attacking group.
There were very few more aggressive riders at the Tour de France than Bruno Armirail. He should be out in plenty of breakaways as La Vuelta goes on. Wout Poels would be another who loves getting off the front, and he is another who needs consideration.
EF Education have sent a very young team, including 20-year-old Markel Beloki. He arrives off the back of winning the Tour of Alsace, showing up well in the Tour of Austria prior to that. He looks the type to be given a chance to escape during the Vuelta at some point.

- Stage 4 is the longest so far at 206.7km with more than 3,300m of climbing to be done.
- The hills come early with two Cat 2s and a Cat 3 within the first 80km, then all downhill or flat to the finish.
- Bruno Armirail was officially credited with five breakaways during the Tour de France, three of the eight stages of the Dauphine and three of the six on the Tour of the Basque Country.
- As well as being a decent climber, Armirail is a three-time French Individual Time Trial Champion, so once they hit the flat ground, he can really put the power down.

The betting thinks that this will come down to a sprint, but the early hills are going to put a lot of pressure on the sprinters' teams getting their fast men over the early hills before trying to claw back any breakaway. It seems likely that a solid group of climbers will look to get away early, and the right group might just be able to stay away.
As always, guessing who will end up in the break is the most difficult part. There are a few who look likely to be attacking, like Koen Bouwman and Wout Poels, but our La Vuelta Stage 4 prediction is Bruno Armirail each way to spring a shock.
