La Vuelta - Stage 3 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta
by Matthew Newman |
We remain in Northern Italy for Stage 3 of La Vuelta for one of the shorter stages. There is a Cat 2 halfway and a Cat 4 to the line, so a punchy rider is going to be the type that we need to find to make our prediction.
There is a climb around the halfway mark of this stage, which is steeper to begin with than later on, so it looks like a perfect jumping point for strong attackers. The key is going to be how many sprinters manage to get over the climb.
One who should have no issue with the climb is Mads Pedersen, though he was very disappointing on Stage 1 when miles off in the sprint. He was well down in yesterday's climb to the line, but this stage looks much more in his wheelhouse.
Tom Pidcock will have been disappointed to be left alone by his team on Stage 2, which only saw him finish 10th. He is better than that, but he will want the proper sprinters to be dropped.
Jasper Philipsen won the opening stage. As mentioned there, he is the best sprinter in the race, but he was distanced very early on Stage 2. His team will have to work hard to bring him back after the climb.

- There is just 134.6km to cover on Stage 3 of La Vuelta.
- Almost 2000m of vertical climbing is to be done, including a Cat 2 halfway through the stage and a Cat 4 climb to the line.
- The Cat 2 is the key here, a big attack from Lidl-Trek can drop the big sprinting rivals from the peloton for the benefit of Mads Pedersen.
- Lidl-Trek have got it wrong in each of the first two stages; it would be unlike them to do that three times in a row.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 3 - La Vuelta prediction
This is an interesting-looking profile as it is one of the shorter stages of the Vuelta, but the Cat 2 climb in the middle is going to do plenty of damage to those who do not have climbing legs.
This is most likely to go to whatever sprinter is going to be able to get over the main climb in one pieceeand that looks like being Mads Pedersen, who is one of the stronger climbers when it comes to the sprinting types. Our La Vuelta Stage 3 prediction is Mads Pedersen to win.
