La Vuelta - Stage 12 Predictions & Betting tips - La Vuelta

 by Matthew Newman |

Stage 12 of La Vuelta has a pair of fair-sized climbs, a Category 2 after 33km and a Category 1 after 115km. The terrain between is undulating, so spring one-day types could be the prediction here.

There should be plenty of action early on here, as there was on Wednesday, with attacks likely to be plentiful. With mountain days coming up on Friday and Saturday, this could be a stage for the smaller teams to try and make an escape.

Sergio Chumil beat some decent climbers to win Stage 4 of the Grand Camino back in March. He is not a regular attacker, but this stage represents a good opportunity for the likes of his Burgos Burpellet team.

Caja Rural are another team that fits that bill. Joel Nicolau has been their most attacking rider so far in the race, and he has solid enough one-day form as well as a bit of climbing ability to enjoy the terrain between the big climbs.

When it comes to the bigger teams, Marc Soler was busy early on Stage 11, and while he's not the strongest climber, his power could really drive a break between and after them.

Perhaps the most interesting rider (if he can make it over the climbs) is Filippo Ganna. He can climb a bit; his record in the spring races shows that, and there are very few who can put down the power like he can.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 12 - La Vuelta prediction

With the first hors category climb coming up in La Vuelta in Stage 13 and a Category 1 to the finish line on Stage 14, this looks like another stage where there will be a break that gets up the road. The climbs are of a fair size but are not the most difficult in the race.

That could mean that it is a day where classics riders could come out on top, especially one who can really turn a big gear on the flat. Our La Vuelta Stage 12 prediction is Filippo Ganna each way as there are very few in the peloton that can live with him once he puts the power down.
