Diana Shnaider, the seventh seed at the Charleston Open, will face off with Katie Volynets in the second round. The two will be clashing for the third time in their careers, with this being their second meeting on clay. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Shnaider hasn’t had a stable season but will be confident of equaling her best run in Charleston. In her two appearances here, the Russian hasn’t failed to progress past this round.

She is coming from a third-round defeat in Miami against Belinda Bencic, carrying here an 8-7 record for the season. Even in her struggles, Shnaider will be confident of a win, having beaten Volynets in both of their previous encounters.

Volynets, 85th in the live ranking and 65 places lower than Shnaider, will step into this game hoping for some stability. A semi-finalist in Ostrava, the American has had trouble negotiating the early rounds at her previous events.

This is just the third time in seven matches that she’s been able to advance past the first round. On clay, she lost four of her last seven outings, while half of her last eight matches on all surfaces have ended in defeat.

She was, however, on the winning side in her last game, beating Eva Lys 2-1 in the opening round. Volynets has never advanced past the second round in Charleston.
