Kairat had a weekend off after the 0-0 draw in the first leg, which was their third match in a row without a win in all competitions (D1, L2) during regular time.
The Kazakhs started their journey in this year’s competition in the first qualifying round and have defeated Ljubljana (3-1 aggregate), KuPS (3-2), and Slovan Bratislava (via penalties). Interestingly, all three matches saw them clinch their home legs.

That’s a record Celtic needs to breach to have any hopes of extending their three-season presence in the league phase of the Champions League. Kairat lined up in a 4-3-3 formation in the first leg but will have to make a lot of changes for this fixture. First-choice goalkeeper Alexander Zarutsky was forced off injured in the final 15 minutes of the first leg and could be out of contention here.
That leaves rookie 21-year-old Temirlan Anarbekov as their choice between the sticks. Luis Mata and Giorgi Zaria are also out for the hosts, but the biggest worry is Dastan Satpayev getting suspended after a late yellow card in the reverse fixture.
Benjamin Nygren has three goals in his last four games for Celtic.
That gives the Hoops some hope of finding the back of the net here and pushing their boat. The 4-3-3 formation for the Scottish visitors will see Nygren start on the right flank with Shin Yamada likely to start in a central position.
Daizen Maeda didn’t have a great game in the home fixture, but an assist at the weekend should see him get back to his best. The visitors are likely to miss Adam Idah, while Jota and Alistair Johnston are out for this fixture.
