The 2026 World Matchplay kicks off on Saturday evening with Josh Rock taking on Luke Woodhouse. Recent encounters between these two have been very tightly contested, so our prediction leans toward this match going deep.
Josh Rock enters the 2026 World Matchplay as the number eight seed and looking to go one better than last year when he reached the semi-final before bowing out to Luke Littler 17-14.
Rocky has had a mixed season. He finished bottom of the Premier League, but reached the last 16 at the UK Open before clinching his first major title of the year at the Austrian Darts Open in May.
Rock has won six of his last 10 matches across all competitions and leads the h2h standings against his upcoming opponent 5-2.
Meanwhile, Luke Woodhouse qualified for this competition via the ProTour Order of Merit as the world No. 18. This is his third appearance at the World Matchplay, but he has not got beyond the first round.
Woody has enjoyed a solid year, having captured his maiden PDC ranking title at the Players Championship 18 in mid-May before following up with his first European Tour title just 12 days later.
The Englishman has also been in good form leading up to this competition, winning eight of his last 10 matches, including victories over Jonny Clayton, Gian van Veen and Danny Noppert.

Our Josh Rock vs Luke Woodhouse Prediction
Josh Rock enters this match as the favourite, but he has lacked his usual ruthless consistency in recent times, as evidenced by tight tournament battles against Darryl Pilgrim and Jim Long in the last month.
Luke Woodhouse is having a breakout season and enters Blackpool with immense confidence. Woody also has a point to prove after back-to-back first-round exits from this competition in the last two years. We feel he will push Rock deep in this one. Our Josh Rock vs Luke Woodhouse prediction is over 15.5 legs.
