Jordan and Bahrain are in the running for a top finish in Group E of the AFC Asian Cup. The two nations face off on Match Day 3 of the competition, separated by a point. Jordan are top of the pool with four points and Bahrain third on three. A win may not guarantee Jordan the top spot, but will at least ensure they finish in the top two and advance automatically. Jordan were impressive on Match Day 1, beating Malaysia 4-0. They’d be disgruntled at failing to bag three points on Match Day 2 as they drew 2-2 with South Korea. A 90th minute Yazan Al Arab own goal did them in after impressively responding to conceding early. It is with this same strength that Jordan will want to wrap up the group matches while avoiding any setbacks. In their scoring form, they look strong enough to wrap up with a win. Jordan have scored two or more in three of their last four matches. Their recent matches have been high scoring as well; eight of the last 10 returning over 2.5 goals. In six Asian Cup matches, Jordan’s only loss came through post-match penalties.

Bahrain have suffered straight losses in their last two meetings with Jordan and both games had over 2.5 goals. Coming into this game, Bahrain did better than their Match Day 1 performance. They beat the group’s minnows Malaysia 1-0 and will be gunning for another win here, to ensure automatic qualification to the next round. Their Match Day 1 3-1 loss to South Korea could come to haunt their qualification chances if they don’t manage at least a draw here. Bahrain will however enter this game as minnows, and any result other than a loss will be great. The win over Malaysia ended their run of three straight defeats and Bahrain will be keen not to get back there. Their recent run in the Asian Cup isn’t great either, Bahrain losing six of the last 10 matches in this competition.
