Jil Tiechman bids to get another win over Elena Rybakina. This is a second round match in the Rome Masters with the winners possibly facing second seeded Paula Badosa. Tiechmann is ranked 29th in the world and that's the best the Swiss player has achieved in her career. That will be broken next week though with Tiechmann 24th in the live rankings. Last week saw her get to the semi-final in Madrdi, losing to Jessica Pegula. On her way to the last four, Tiechmann beat Rybakina in the last 16 and only lost four games. Her good form has continued in Rome with a straight sets first round win over Jasmine Paolini. That was followed by her knocking out the sixth seeded Karolina Pliskova (runner-up here last year) in three sets.

Elena Rybakina is the world number 17 and up a place in the live rankings. This is only her second appearance in this tournament, reaching the third round last year. 2021 also saw her get to the last eight at Roland Garros. This year's clay court season hasn't gone too well with an early exit in Charleston. Rybakina has only won one WTA Tour title on clay but that was at a lower level. So far in this tournament, Rybakina has beaten two qualifiers withut losing a set. Back Tiechmann to confirm the form of last week, though it might be a bit closer this time.
