Flavio Cobolli, the 24th seed at this year’s US Open, takes on the unseeded Jenson Brooksby in the second round. The two are coming into their second career meeting after gruelling first-round fixtures. Read on for our prediction of the match.
Jenson Brooksby needed a decider to get past his opener against Aleksandar Vukic. The two alternated sets with Vukic taking the second and fourth sets to force the decider. This year, Brooksby hasn’t won more than one tie at a major.
However, returning to his home Slam, where he has made the third round in his last two appearances, could spark a change in fortunes. Brooksby, who won on clay his only duel with Cobolli three years ago, has shot up seven places to 85th in the live ranking.
Flavio Cobolli is also coming off a five-set showdown to start his run at Flushing Meadows. The Italian, making his second appearance in New York, had a tough time against qualifier and compatriot Francesco Passaro.
He took the first and third sets before sealing victory with a 6-3 win in the decider. Cobolli made the third round in his debut last year. Since then, he has gradually grown in confidence at the big stage and only suffered one first-round loss.
Cobolli, who is up to 24th in the live ranking, had a stunning run to the quarter-finals in Wimbledon.
