Japan and Canada will face off in their second preliminary round match at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball World Championship on Monday afternoon. Ryujin Nippon are at the bottom of Group G, while Team Canada are second. Let’s get into the match prediction.
Japan entered this competition as one of the favourites to clinch a top-two spot in this group, but they suffered an early setback on Saturday when they were beaten by Tunisia.
Ryujin Nippon failed to win a single set against the African representatives in the shock defeat. Kento Miyaura and captain Yuki Ishikawa led the team in points with 13 and 10, respectively.
With that result, Japan have now lost three of their last four matches across all competitions and failed to win a set in any of those defeats.
Meanwhile, Canada were stunned in the opening set of their World Championship campaign by Libya but bounced back in set two and pushed on to secure a 3-1 victory.
Sharone Vernon-Evans was the standout performer for the North Americans with 22 points, while skipper Nicholas Hoag scored 20 points, including four off his service.
After clinching third at the Pan-American Cup, Canada have now won six of their last seven matches. However, they were beaten by Japan in their last encounter back in June.

Our Japan vs Canada Prediction
Japan’s defeat to Tunisia was arguably the biggest upset of the opening round of matches in this competition, and they will be determined to bounce back here, or they could be facing a shock early exit.
However, Canada have been in good form of late and kicked off their World Championships with a solid display against Libya. While we fancy Canada to get the result here, we are expecting a much better performance from Ryujin Nippon. Our Japan vs Canada prediction is over 160.5 points.
