Round 2 of the World Matchplay will conclude with James Wade taking on Ryan Searle on Wednesday evening. The Machine was the runner-up here in Blackpool last year, and our prediction is that he will edge the dangerous Heavy Metal in this match.
After losing to Luke Littler in the final of the World Matchplay last year, James Wade got his 2026 campaign started with a solid 10-7 victory over Jermaine Wattimena on Sunday afternoon.
Despite finishing with seven 180s to Wattimena’s 13, the Machine maintained the higher three-dart average (96.19) and converted 43.48% (10/23) of his checkout attempts.
Wade has won six of his last 10 matches in all competitions. This is his first competitive outing against this opponent since May 2024.
Meanwhile, Ryan Searle bowed out in the first round of this competition last year, but he avoided the same fate in this campaign by overcoming William O’Connor 10-6 on Sunday.
Heavy Metal was outdone 8-3 in 180s and averaged 94.98 to O’Connor’s 95.18. However, he recorded a very impressive 55.56% checkout conversion, including a 131 highest checkout.
Searle has won seven of his last 10 matches in all competitions. The last six matches between Searle and Wade were split three wins apiece.

Our James Wade vs Ryan Searle Prediction
Ryan Searle managed to get by William O’Connor in Round 1, but he had a mediocre average and fewer 180s than the Irishman, and it’s going to take better performances than that for us to start backing him with confidence.
James Wade’s performance against Jermaine Wattimena wasn’t his best either, but the veteran knows how to stay in control in these high-pressure events, and we fancy him to do so in this clash. Our James Wade vs Ryan Searle prediction is James Wade wins.
