by Nella Wagah in Champions League Predictions
Jagiellonia Białystok’s Champions League quest continues with a 3rd qualifying round match against Bodo/Glimt this Wednesday. Can the surprise Polish champions carry their giant killing instincts to frustrate Bodo/Glimt? Here’s our preview and prediction for the first leg of this tie.
As it is, Jagiellonia are guaranteed a place in the league phase in one of Europe’s three club competitions. Given a choice, they’d definitely pick the Champions League, and here they have their chance. Winning this tie on aggregate will see them book a place in the playoffs.
In the last round, they thrashed Lithuanian side Panevezys 7-1 on aggregate. A 3-1 home win completed that rout and they come here having beaten Stal Mielec 2-0 for their third straight win in the Polish league. A strong start to the season now has Jagiellonia on five consecutive wins, scoring two or more in each and with three clean sheets.
In a battle pitting leaders in their respective leagues, Bodo/Glimt will be looking to gain the first leg advantage here. Unlike their hosts, the Norwegian side has more experience in Europe. Bodo/Glimt first played in the Champions League in 2021 and this will be their 13th game.
In their 11th and 12th, they won home and away against Rigas 7-1 on aggregate. Their away leg ended 3-1, and this signals a clash of two sides carrying much firepower. Having won six times in their last seven Champions League matches, Bodo/Glimt will be justified to feel as favorites.
However, in their last six away matches in the same competition, they managed just one win and lost four times. Ahead of this game, they came from behind to beat Haugesund 4-2, in the process opening a seven-point gap. Bodo/Glimt have lost just once in the last 11 matches.
