Al Ittihad will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the Saudi Pro League when they host Al Wehda on Sunday. After two matches, two points and four places separate these teams. Read on for our preview and prediction of the match.
Last season, Al Ittihad finished a distant fifth in the league, 42 points behind the champions. Looking at the investment in the team, that was a dismal performance. This term they seem to have woken up and are looking to be in the title challenge.
Al Ittihad recorded a 1-0 win at Al Kholood in their season opener and in their latest game, they overcame Al-Taawoun 2-1. As they play last on the weekend, Al Ittihad will only hope to win to keep up with the leading pack, which consists of three other sides on perfect runs.
Al Wehda are also unbeaten so far in the season but are on four points. They dropped points in their opening 3-3 draw with Al Riyadh after letting their lead slip three times.
It was almost the same script on Match Day 2 but the in-form Mourad Khodari rescued them with a stoppage time goal. The visitors beat Al Orubah 2-1 with goals in the first and 90th minutes, Khodari adding to Odion Ighalo’s opener.
With that strike, Khodari joined Craig Goodman on two goals in two matches and they will be relied upon here. Al Wehda may however struggle to trouble the star-studded Al Ittihad, seeing that they have just three wins in their last 18 league matches.
They’ve also lost each of their last eight matches against Al Ittihad.
