The USA will take on Switzerland in the IIHF World Championship finals. The USA are 8-1 in the tournament to this point, the same record as Switzerland. Let's take a deeper look at the teams ahead of a prediction.

The most notable game so far for the USA was when they took on Switzerland in the group stage. It was the Swiss team who came out on top on that occasion by a score of 3-0. 

The Swiss team were always in charge that day with the USA never looking like they were going to be able to land a blow. It was the start of an exceptional defensive run for the Swiss team.

It was the third game for each in the group stage with Switzerland suffering a defeat in their opening game, a 4-5 overtime loss to the Czech Republic. They have gone unbeaten since, conceding only four times in seven games. 

In the quarter-final matchups, the USA got the better of Finland 5-2, while Switzerland were easy 6-0 winners over Austria. The semis saw the USA overcome Sweden 6-2 while Switzerland beat Denmark 7-0.

Our World Championship Final - International prediction

Switzerland were easy winners when these teams met in the group stage. The USA struggled to get control of the puck in the early stages and the result was never in doubt once Switzerland got themselves on the scoresheet. We fully expect that the USA are going to be gunning for revenge but they might just overcommit and that will leave them vulnerable. This is expected to be a tight game again but our IIHF final prediction is a Switzerland win.
