Milan-San Remo Predictions & Betting tips - Cycling
by Matthew Newman |
The 2026 edition of Milan-San Remo is on Saturday afternoon. The 298km course is the longest of the one-day races, although there is not much climbing to do, so it comes down to the most powerful of rider. Who wins this year? Let’s make a prediction.
There is only one place to start and that is with Mathieu van der Poel. Winner of the race in 2023 and 2025, he is favourite once more this year to add a third win. That would put him in rarified air as one of just eight men to win this race three of more times.
His Alpecin teammate Jasper Philipsen won the race in 2024. He is an excellent sprinter but is probably here as a backup plan in case things do not go right in the opening part of the race for can der Poel.
This is a race that Tadej Pogacar is yet to add to his huge resume but he has a solid record in it. He has ridden in the race on five occasions, grabbing third place twice as well as finishing fourth, fifth and 12th.
Lidl-Trek will be missing Jonathan Milan but that can open the door to Soren Kragh Andersen to play another big role in the race. He missed 2025 due to illness but boasted top 10 finishes in the race from 2021-2023.
