Israel will look to make it tough for Hungary, who will prepare for the upcoming European Championships with this last friendly before the tournament in Germany. The match will be played at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen, Hungary, on Saturday. Hungary are in Group A in the Euros, where they will have to tackle the hosts Germany, Scotland, and Switzerland. They play Switzerland in their tournament opener one week from now and need to bounce back from their latest defeat. The Hungarians lost 2-1 to the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, where they fell to a late goal in the dying minutes of the game. It wasn’t a catastrophic moment, though, as Hungary had been unbeaten in 14 matches prior, winning nine and drawing five. That shouldn’t take anything away from their performances, however, as Hungary have won four and drawn one of their previous five friendlies before that defeat.
Israel don’t have the Euros to look forward to, as they were beaten in the semi-finals of the playoffs, losing 4-1 to Iceland. That came after they finished third in Group I behind Romania and Switzerland, with an indifferent record of four wins, three draws, and three losses. Unlike their opponents, the Israelis last featured in March, when they played in the qualification playoffs. They come into this match with three defeats and one draw from their last five matches and could face some difficulty adjusting to quality action. The challenge for them is to find some goals, as they could score only 11 goals in their ten qualifying games. There’s some hope in their recent form in the friendlies, as Israel have scored nine goals in their last four international friendlies.
