Prediction published on May 26, 2022 at 9:23 PM
Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest meet at Wembley in the final of the Championship playoff to decide who will play in the Premier League next season. Huddersfield had a much easier path to the final as they beat Luton 2-1 on aggregate while Nottingham Forest lost the second leg at home after winning the away leg to force the tie into a penalty shootout which they won thanks to three penalty saves from goalkeeper Brice Samba. This will be the fourth meeting between these sides this season with Forest winning twice and Huddersfield once. This will be the 10th time that the third plays fourth in the second tier playoff final with the third place team winning the final on six of the nine occasions. Huddersfield ended the regular season in great form and carried that form into the playoffs and are now nine matches unbeaten.
Nottingham Forest have lost two of their previous four matches but have been through a remarkable turnaround in the past two seasons. They went from being relegation strugglers a few years ago to making the playoffs and this mainly due to manager Steve Cooper who has a 85% unbeaten rate since take over in September. Nottingham Forest are contesting the final of the playoffs for the first time in their history having lost their four previous semi-final matches. This is their first appearance at Wembley since they played Manchester United in a League Cup final in the 1991/92 season but will be hoping for a better result than their last visit when they lost 1-0.

Conclusion Huddersfield Town - Nottingham Forest
Huddersfield have reached the playoff final for the sixth time and have won on four of the five occasions while Nottingham Forest will be hoping that it is first time lucky for them. Forest have only one win in their last four matches but will hope that they saved their best performance for the final. This match is often billed the richest match in the world due to the broadcasting revenue in the Premier League and this is probably the reason that seven of the last nine finals have produced under 2.5 goals. We are therefore backing the under 2.5 goals option for this match.
