The first weekend of the New Year in the Scottish Premiership will kick off with Hibernian playing host to Rangers at Easter Road Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Hibs are seventh in the league standings while the Gers are second. Check out our match prediction below. 

After only managing two wins in their first 16 league games this season, Hibernian ended last year excellently, racking up four wins on the bounce before playing out a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone in midweek. 

Hibs’ most notable result during that run was beating Aberdeen 3-1 on the road. The last time they went five matches without defeat in the top flight was between February and March last season. 

The hosts have taken 13 points from a possible 30 at home this term, but they are currently unbeaten in their last three (W2 D1 L0), and scored seven goals across that period. 

Meanwhile, Rangers will enter this match with bags of confidence after beating their arch-rivals Celtic 3-0 in the first Old Firm derby of 2025 on Thursday evening. 

With that result, the Gers have now won six, drawn two and lost just one of their last nine league games and also trimmed the gap to the league-leading Hoops to 11 points. 

However, the visitors' away form this season has not been the greatest. They have won only three of their nine away games to date and are now aiming to avoid a third match without victory.
