Relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin will on Saturday hope to boost their survival hopes with a win over fifth placed RB Leipzig. The home side are in 16th position in the German Bundesliga and that would see them go into a relegation play-off at the end of the season. They are three points from safety with eight games remaining but only one point above the automatic relegatiom places. Hertha have done well to try and claw their way out of the relegation zone in recent weeks and have avoided defeat four times in their last seven league matches with a couple of wins, two draws and three losses. They drew 1-1 with Freiburg away from home last time out and should have the momentum to try and avoid defeat again here. Sandro Schwarz’s men are just two points away from safety and with a relegation blockbuster coming up against Schalke after this weekend, another positive result here will set them up nicely for the trip to Schalke.

RB Leipzig are only a place  and two points behind the final Champions League qualifying place but are in terrible form with four defeats in their last six league and cup games.  Three of those losses came in the league and precipitated their falling out of the top four. Marco Rose’s men sit in fifth place with 45 points, two adrift of the Champions League places. They beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in midweek to advance to the semifinals of the DFB Pokal and keep their hopes of retaining their title alive and will hope the win sparks a winning run in the league starting with Saturday’s game. Having lost just once against Hertha in the last 13 encounters, Leipzig should expect to get back to winning ways in the league with this match.
