Second seed Liudmila Samsonova will seek her first win against unseeded Greet Minnen when they square off at the Libema Open. They will battle in the quarter-finals with the winner playing Ekaterina Alexandrova, Jule Niemeier or Robin Montgomery next. Greet Minnen has never lost against Samsonova. She has won all three of their matchups and this will have her extremely confident of winning this round. They last battled at the US Open three years ago. The Belgian has equalled her best-ever result in this event by advancing to this round. She defeated seventh seed Donna Vekic in three sets and has now won four of the five matches she has played on grass. Switching to grass allowed her to snap a run of five successive losses to conclude the clay season. Minnen, who is now up to 84th in the live ranking, has had a difficult year. She has compiled a 14-19 record and hasn’t won more than two matches at a tour event.

Liudmila Samsonova has also had a tough season and has lost more than she has won. She has compiled an 11-13 record. Despite this, she has fared better than Minnen at tour level and has been in good form in recent weeks. The Russian, who has managed two semi-final appearances this year, has registered six of her 11 wins in her last eight fixtures. One of those victories was a straight-sets win over the wildcard Celine Naef in the last round. The world number 15 has yet to lose a set in Hertogenbosch. Samsonova is a strong grasscourt player and has registered a tour title on the surface but has struggled on grass in recent outings. She has not finished with a winning record on grass in the last two seasons.
