Greece’s time in League B of the UEFA Women’s Nations League is over for now. Sitting at the bottom, they will be at home to Turkey in their final Group B2 match. Read on for our prediction.
Greece are coming from a 2-0 loss in Slovenia, their fifth straight defeat and third time in four games that they failed to score. Their poor run isn’t only reflected in their scoring form; they’ve also been conceding consistently.
Four times in the last five matches, they let in two or more goals. Greece can afford some confidence as they finish their matches at home. They’ve avoided defeat in three of the last five outings there and kept two clean sheets.
Turkey are coming off a 2-1 loss at home to the Republic of Ireland. That was their third straight defeat, and they will have themselves to blame after falling from a winning position.
Kader Hancar’s goal seemed to be saving their League B status until they conceded twice in the final 11 minutes. The first of those was an own goal before Emily Murphy slammed in a stoppage-time winner.
Now Turkey can only play for a third-placed finish. They will be looking to complete a double on Greece following a 1-0 win earlier. Their away run doesn’t support that, having lost the last three.
