Giro d'Italia Stage 2 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia

Stage 2 of the 2025 Giro d'Italia is an individual time trial of just under 14kms. It is a competitive field which we have looked through to make a prediction.
Primoz Roglic is the overall favourite to land the Giro and he has his first opportunity to put some time into his main rivals. He is a rock-solid time trialist and won the Giro in 2023, the only time that he has contested this race in the last six years. That win included taking one of the three ITTs on the route.
With a small climb partway through, it could be a time trial that suits Wout van Aert. An Olympic, World and European ITT podium taker, he has strong claims to a place in the top three again.
Joshua Tarling, who was 4th in the ITT at the Olympics, and Derek Gee, who won the overall title at the O Gran Camino in February, both had trouble on the final climb during stage one. They are excellent in this discipline so shouldn't be written off.
The most recent grand tour was the Vuelta where the opening ITT went to Brandon McNulty. He has not made a strong start to 2025 but he looks to be riding back into form. The reigning European time trial champion is Edoardo Affini. He has been part of a number of team time trial winners in big events.

- At 13.7km, Stage 2 is comfortably the shortest stage of the 2025 Giro d’Italia so there is no room for any mistakes.
- Brandon McNulty has wins in both the Giro and the Vuelta in the past, he landed the ITT in the 2024 Vuelta.
- The favourite for this stage was dropped early on the final climb yesterday so has a touch to prove.
- Of McNulty's 16 career wins, five have come in an ITT.

This is only a short and sharp stage but the main players for outright glory will be looking to take any seconds that they can off their rivals. This should be an exciting battle with some very decent time triallists in the field.
Although the climb on the stage is not a big one, there were a few ITT fancies who struggled yesterday so it will be interesting to see what is in the legs of the likes of Tarling and Gee. Our prediction for Stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia is Brandon McNulty. The American rider has hinted, he is coming back into form and he is an excellent time triallist.
