Gillingham continue with their FA Cup campaign and will on Saturday play host to Sheffield United in the third round. This is the first meeting between these two sides in seven years. Gillingham started their tournament in the first round and have won both of their matches with similar 2-0 scorelines. After getting the better of Hereford in the opening round, they returned home for round two and defeated Charlton. The win over Charlton allowed them to advance to this round for the fourth time in the last six seasons. Stephen Clemence’s men, who are angling at earning a playoff spot in League Two, have won their last two matches. They defeated Colchester 1-0 last time out.

Sheffield United are struggling this season and look destined to suffer relegation from the Premier League. They will hope a strong run in the FA Cup will spark a resurgence in the league. United have won just two games this season across all competitions and only five times have they avoided defeat. They have played 21 matches. Chris Wilder, since taking over from Paul Heckingbottom in December, has overseen six matches. Four of those have ended in defeat. Sheffield were defeated 2-0 last time out away to Manchester City. But with their recent success in this competition, the Blades will be confident of success here. Sheffield have made it to at least the quarterfinals of the FA Cup three times in the last four seasons. Last year, they went all the way to the semifinals.
