Another massive game of football returns to the Munich Arena just a week after the same venue hosted the UEFA Champions League final. This time it will be Germany hosting Portugal in the first UEFA Nations League semi-final on Wednesday. We have a prediction for this match, which brings a number of firsts with it.
It is the first time Germany are playing in the Nations League finals and also the first meeting between the nations in this competition. The two countries also meet for the first time outside the World Cup and European Championship since 1997.
As Germany hosts the Nations League finals for the first time, they are looking to build on a run of just one loss in their last 11 home matches. Undeniably, the hosts are the favorites in this fixture and have also dominated Portugal lately. Can Portugal break this run against Germany? Read on for more.

Germany - Portugal: Form Analysis
Former world champions Germany are getting back to their best after years of decline that came after the 2014 World Cup. The past few months have been great, especially after a successful run in the European Championship.
Now there is a level of belief among fans that’s getting into Die Mannschaft. That confidence was tested to the core as Germany almost lost to Italy in their last game. They held on for a 3-3 draw in a game they went to the break leading 3-0 at home.
It was another show of their vulnerabilities, but an eight-game unbeaten run will breed a lot of positivity across the board. They’ve lost only to European champions Spain in the last 17 matches.
Germany are unbeaten in the last five matches against Portugal.
Portugal have had moments of instability but will be happy to have made it this far. They return to the finals looking to add to their Nations League title won in the inaugural competition back in 2018/2019.
To get here, they had to sweat it though as well. In the first leg of the quarter-finals, they lost 1-0 away to Denmark. In the return leg they led 3-2 at 90 minutes, forcing extra time, through which they emerged 5-2 winners on the night.
Here the Portuguese face a tougher opponent, and they have to be at their best, especially given their away-day troubles.

Germany & Portugal Squad Analysis
If there is an area that’s going to give Julian Nagelsmann a headache for these finals, it has to be the defence. The good news, first of all, is that goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen is back after months out injured.
His experience should get him back between the sticks. That’s about the best defensive update for the Germans.
Flipped to the other side, Antonio Rudiger is ruled out, and things could get harder after Yann Bisseck limped off the Champions League final. Nico Schlotterbeck is also ruled out.
German skipper Joshua Kimmich is set for his 100th cap.
On the Portuguese side, the only regular member of the squad missing out is Joao Cancelo, who suffered an injury with Al-Hilal last month. There are a few milestones that will be hit in this game, though. Cristiano Ronaldo is still on the team.
He first faced Germany at the 2006 Euros, and 19 years later, he is set for his 220th Portugal cap. Bernardo Silva will also be expected to feature for his 101st appearance.
Meanwhile, Joao Neves, Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, and Nuno Mendes return to Munich a few days after winning the Champions League there with PSG.

Our Germany vs Portugal Prediction
Portugal are packed with talent and fewer injuries, so they had the luxury of leaving out some key names. However, in Germany, and in front of a biased crowd, the Portuguese’s talent may fail to deliver a win.
The team itself is struggling on the road, and here they meet a German side on a good run and with home support. The Portuguese lost each of the last five meetings with Germany, and in their away form, we don’t expect much to change here. Our prediction for Germany v Portugal is that Germany wins the match.
Germany vs Portugal - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 2.5 goals
There were panic buttons hit in Portugal’s last game. In such circumstances, it is always possible for the Portuguese to get his back with a goal or more. They scored five times last time out to complete a 5-3 aggregate win over Denmark.
Germany were also close to an upset after losing a three-goal lead against Italy. In the end they wrapped up a 5-4 win on aggregate. Like in those matches, our second prediction is for over 2.5.
