Defending Serie A champions Inter Milan start their title defense against Genoa, a fixture that might favor them. This match will be played at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Saturday, with our prediction favoring a winning start for the Nerazzurri.
Genoa finished last season in 11th place in Serie A, with 49 points and only four behind the top-ten sides. It was an impressive performance in their first season back in the top flight, but this year could be a tough one. That’s because they have lost striker Mateo Retegui to Atalanta, and question marks remain over another key forward, Albert Guðmundsson.
They did start their season with a 1-0 win in the Coppa Italia competition, but Inter are a tougher opponent. The Nerazzurri won their 20th Serie A title last year with a tally of 94 points, 19 more than their nearest challengers, AC Milan. They have lost only twice all season, and both defeats came against Sassuolo, who are now relegated.
The visitors didn’t win any of their last three friendlies, drawing two and losing one, but should be up for the game here. The Nerazzurri ended last season with eight wins out of their last ten away league games, and they will try to recreate that form and start this campaign with a win.
