It may sound out of place, but Genoa hosting Fiorentina is one of the big games to follow in Serie A this weekend. The two sides are based in the bottom three after 10 rounds of matches, and whoever wins will likely leave the red zone. Here’s our prediction of the match.
Genoa went winless in the opening nine rounds of the season, causing Patrick Vieira to step down. Roberto Murgita held brief as interim manager and delivered a first win, beating Sassuolo 2-1.
Now Daniele De Rossi has been named the permanent replacement and will be targeting back-to-back topflight wins for the team. Genoa haven't achieved that simple feat since January 2024.
The big challenge ahead is that Genoa are winless at home in Serie A since April and haven't scored there this season.
Fiorentina also have a new man at the helm after Stefano Pioli’s disastrous reign. Danielle Galloppa was put in temporary charge and led them in yet another loss, this time in the Conference League.
Now Paolo Vanoli comes in as the manager and will be looking to improve on Fiorentina’s worst start to a Serie A season. La Viola have collected just four points from a possible 33.
They are one of three sides yet to win a league game. Thanks to the teams around them faltering, Fiorentina remain just two points below the safety line.
