Coming here on the back of a poor start to their respective league campaigns, Genoa and Empoli look for a lift in the 2025-26 Coppa Italia campaign. This second-round match between the Grifone and the Azzurri Empolesi at Luigi Ferraris comes with our prediction of under 2.5 goals. The winner of this match will go on to face Atalanta in the round of 16.

Genoa lost in the second round last year but had reached the round of 16 in five consecutive seasons before that. Empoli lost in the semi-finals last year but had a first-round exit in two consecutive seasons before that.

A 2-1 away defeat at Bologna last weekend in Serie A continued Genoa’s poor start to the season. They are without a win in four league games (D2, L2), keeping them close to the relegation zone.

Their only competitive win this season was in the first round of the Coppa Italia, but goals have eluded them otherwise.

Empoli also lost over the weekend in a 4-1 away result at Pescara in Serie B. That made it two defeats out of their last three (D1, L2) matches, suggesting they may have lost some steam.

Even in the Coppa Italia, they needed penalties to win in the first round, where they overcame Reggiana after a 1-1 draw during regular time.
