Genk’s hopes of making it to consecutive Europa League group stages depend on overturning a deficit against Olympiacos. The second leg of this third qualifying round will be played at the Cegeka Arena in Genk with the visitors holding a 1-0 advantage. The winners of this two-legged tie will advance to the playoff round while the losers will be transferred to the Europa Conference League play-off round. Should that happen, it would be quite a ride for Genk in Europe this season. They started in the Champions League second round qualifying, where they lost to Servette and got transferred to this round of the Europa League. The Belgians are looking to make it consecutive group stage appearances in this competition, but need to do better than the first leg. They did recover from that loss to record a 1-0 win in the domestic league making it two wins and a loss to start their league campaign. Their home form is tricky though, with Genk having lost three games in a row at this venue in all competitions.

Olympiacos got an early first minute goal in the reverse fixture and held on to that, taking a 1-0 lead to this fixture. That made it four wins out of their last five matches, with the other being a draw. They are playing the third qualifying round straight away and looking to make it a third consecutive season of Europa League action. The Greeks needed penalties to win at this stage last season, but the first leg then was a 1-1 draw. It will be a testing time though, as the visitors have won just one of their last 14 matches in this competition, winning seven and drawing six at regular time. It is equally dire on the road with the Greeks losing four and drawing four of their last eight away Europa League games during regular time.
