Galatasaray will be back to the fold, starting the journey to a third consecutive league title this Friday at home to Hatayspor. After clinching the gong with a record tally of 102 points in 2023/24, will the coming season be as good? Read on for our preview and prediction of this match.

The defending champions won 33 of their 38 matches last season to fend off Fenerbahce’s challenge. They won 24 of their 26 matches towards the end of the season. Before starting that run, Hatayspor were the last to beat Galatasaray.

The champions will hope to avoid another loss to their visitors. They did recover to win the return leg 1-0. That was Galatasaray’s third win in four meetings with Hatayspor. The league champions, however, started this season on a low, losing 5-0 to Besiktas in the Super Cup.

For Hatayspor, this isn’t a trip they’d have wished to start the season with, as they also seek a win to kick off their campaign. Last season Hatayspor went unbeaten in their opening eight matches, a trend they’ll want this season too.

The only downside is that in those eight matches, they managed just three wins. At the close of the season they had added just six wins to that tally, and they finished only a point above the relegation zone.

Hatayspor have been poor in this fixture, losing four times in their last six meetings with Galatasaray. It doesn’t help that in their last 18 away league matches, they managed just a win. In seven of 12 away matches ahead of this one, they failed to score. The visitors have two clean sheets only in their last 15 league matches.
