German wild card Henri Squire has a tough draw in round one of the Hamburg Open. He takes on the fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the last 16. Whoever wins this match will be up against either Kwon Soon-woo or Maximilian Marterer.
Squire is 168th in the live rankings which is a career-high for the 23-year-old. His most recent tournament saw him lose in the quarter-finals of the Braunschweig Challenger Tour event. He played in that clay court tournament after losing in the Wimbledon qualifiers.
He didn't win any of his three grass court matches this year so will be glad to get back on other surfaces. He's won one Challenger Tour event this year, that was in Hamburg and played on a hard court. One clay court final has been reached this year, also on the Challenger Tour.
Francisco Cerundolo is at 33rd in the live rankings. The Argentinian had a disappointing Wimbledon, leading 2-0 against Roman Safiullin in round one but losing in five sets. He also lost all three of his grass court matches this year so will be happy to be back on clay.
Cerundolo got to the last 16 at Roland Garros this year. That followed a run to the quarter-finals in Madrid and Bucharest. Before heading to Europe, he also reached the last four in Rio. We tip him to beat Squire in straight sets.
