France have their semi-final place wrapped up in the Women’s Nations League going into the fifth round of matches. They are set to face Switzerland, the bottom-placed team in Group A2. Here’s our prediction for the match.
France have eight goals, four wins, and 12 points in this group. If at all they needed to send a message, this was a strong one. Sandy Baltimore and Clara Mateo scored the goals as France won 2-0 away in Norway.
That was the win that saw them advance, as it left Norway on four points. Norway Switzerland and Iceland, the other members of the group, are left to battle for scraps.
Switzerland start this round stuck at the bottom of the group standings. They’ve managed two points from four matches so far but can salvage their season with positive results in the remaining matches.
The Swiss must rise against the top two sides, though, having picked up their two points against Iceland. Switzerland will blame themselves, having squandered a 2-0 lead, then 3-1, before settling for a 3-3 draw with Iceland last time out.
They are winless in six matches, losing four and failing to score in as many. Switzerland’s away record doesn’t make for a good reading either. They are winless in five, losing four.
