Opening-day fixtures in the Swiss Super League continue on Sunday as FC Lugano hosts newly promoted FC Thun in what should be an exciting game between two attack-minded teams. The Cornaredo Stadium will host the game between the Bianconeri and the visiting Thun as both teams aim to secure a win to start the season. What will our match prediction for this game suggest is the best bet to back?
Last season saw FC Lugano finish in a respectable fourth-place in the Super League, behind only Champions Basel, Servette and Young Boys. They amassed 54 points and scored 55 goals, conceding 58 in their 38 games played. Thun topped the Challenge Division last season to earn direct promotion to the Super League. They took 72 points from 36 games to finish 11-points clear of Aarau. They netted 70 goals, conceding 39.
Lugano were strong in pre-season securing a 2-1 win against Rapperswil, followed by a 4-2 victory over Paradiso and in their most recent game last weekend, earned a 2-0 win over Italian side Pro Vercelli. Their sole defeat came in a 3-2 home loss to Thun in their second game of pre-season.
Thun have that friendly win over Lugano to bolster their hopes of a win here. They did lose 4-3 to at home Kriens and drew 1-1 away to Sion ahead of that win over Lugano and then wrapped up pre-season with a 4-1 win over Aarau last weekend.
