For the first time in over two decades, Basel and Juventus are set to face off. The two will clash in a preseason friendly slated for Saturday at St. Jakob-Park. Basel will be playing their fourth buildup, and like it has been in nine of their last 10 games, a high score will be a feature in our prediction.
Basel are expected to be sharper coming into this match off the back of three friendly outings. The Swiss side played out a 2-2 draw with Winterthur last time out.
That was a recovery from a 3-0 defeat to Yverdon, having earlier beaten Rapperswil-Jona 3-0. All but one of Basel’s last 10 matches produced three or more goals.
They conceded 3+ in six of their last 10 games.
In their two previous meetings with Basel, Juventus scored five times. Their latest two matches have also produced five goals, and they come here hoping to start off their preseason training on a high.
The Italian side didn’t have a great season by their standards and even ended it on a low. They lost a 2-0 lead away against Torino, drawing 2-2 in the derby and missing out on the Champions League.
This season offers a fresh start, and one of the areas of concern is their defence, having conceded 34 in 38 league games.
