The winner of this match is likely to face Novak Djokovic in the quarter finals so they have a possibly tough task ahead of them. Fabio Fognini is seeded ninth in this tournament and has dropped a set in each of his three matches. The third round saw him taken to four sets by Roberto Bautista Agut as he made it through to the fourth round for only the second time since his one quarter-final here back in 2011. He's had a good clay court season though winning the Monte Carlo Masters and one of his three wins over top sixteen ranked players just happened to be against Alexander Zverev. That was his first win against Zverev after losing two matches in 2017, one on clay.

Alexander Zverev is the fifth seed for the French Open but this is one of his rare appearances in the second week of a Grand Slam tournament. Only once has he made it through to a Grand Slam quarter final and that was at this tournament last year where he lost to Dominic Thiem in straight sets. His clay court season has been a disappointing one with  quarter finals in Madrid and Munich. He hasn't beaten a player ranked in the top 20 all year and two of his matches in this year's French Open have gone to five sets. Fognini is the player in form and can win this to reach the last eight.
