Everton vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

by Ian John in Premier League Prediction

Wednesday night in the Premier League sees the latest instalment of the combustible Merseyside derby. Everton host Liverpool in what will be a typically tempestuous affair, with plenty on the line for both teams. Everton warmed up for the game with a vital, yet controversial, 2-0 win over relegation rivals Nottingham Forest. Those three points could be enough to ensure the Toffees’ remain in the Premier League this season. They now sit 16th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone and with a game in hand.

Their rivals from across Stanley Park come into this fixture after an excellent 3-1 away win over Fulham at the weekend. That was Jurgen Klopp's team's second win on the road, following on from a 1-0 win in Bergamo over Atalanta a few days prior. That win moved the Reds second in the table on goal-difference to Arsenal, but third place Manchester City are just a point behind the top two, with a game in hand.

Everton - Liverpool: Form Analysis

Everton come into this game having won both previous home games, a 1-0 win over Burnley and a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest this past weekend. Sean Dyche’s team moved five-points clear of the relegation zone on the back of that last win and also have a game in hand on the teams below them. One more win should be enough to keep them in the Premier League next season. Everton have lost just one of their last four games, but that was a 6-0 defeat on the road at Chelsea, their worst away result of the season. With only five defeats over their last 13 games, that form should be enough to ensure survival, especially with the teams around them struggling to pick up points.

On the red half of Merseyside, Liverpool fans will be desperate for the win to maintain their Premier League title challenge. Liverpool’s form of late hasn’t been great. Firstly drawing at Manchester United, then suffering back-to-back home defeats against Atalanta and Crystal Palace. However, away wins over Atalanta and then Fulham followed. But the Reds have two more away games to navigate before they play two of their last three at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp will be well aware it has not been easy to score a goal, let alone win games against Everton at Goodison Park in recent times and any slip-up here could mean curtains for their already-slim title hopes.

Everton & Liverpool Squad Analysis

Everton’s injury list increased at the weekend. Sean Dyche is already without long-term casualties Nathan Patterson, Dele Alli and Lewis Dobbin. Seamus Coleman is a 50/50 chance to play. Additionally, two strikers picked up injuries at the weekend. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is rated 50/50 for the game with Liverpool after a knock on the knee. However, Beto will be out for an unspecified time after a sickening clash of heads in the game with Nottingham Forest. The good news for Everton was Dwight McNeil’s return to goalscoring form. The ex-Burnley man scored another rasping goal to add to his collection in the win over Forest.

Liverpool’s injury crisis has now abated with the Anfield outfit having just three players in the treatment room. They are long-term absentees Thiago and Joel Matip and young full back Conor Bradley who will likely be out until early May with an ankle ligament issue. Liverpool’s squad is now much stronger and they showed that in making six changes from the game against Atalanta for the game with Fulham at the weekend. With their first-choice strikers misfiring of late, the Reds fans will be delighted to see both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota on the scoresheet against Fulham and both could have a significant role to play in the run-in for the visitors.

Our Everton vs Liverpool Prediction

Merseyside derbies are always tough to predict, but this one especially so. Neither side has been in great form of late in general terms, but Everton have won their last two at home, Liverpool their last two away. Everton do have a dismal record against Liverpool, winning just three of their last 39 Premier League games against the Reds. Yet four of the last six games at Goodison between the two have finished as 0-0 draws and another was a 2-2 draw. What the data does show is that for this fixture in particular, especially at Goodison, goals tend to be in short-supply. So our Everton v Liverpool prediction is for there to be Under 2.5 Goals in the game.

Everton vs Liverpool - Other Interesting Predictions

A Player to be Sent Off in the game

No game in Premier League history has seen more red cards than the Merseyside derby. A total of 20 have been issued in the EPL (28 in total), with the majority of these being handed out to Everton players. Given that passions will be running very high, and with so much at stake, this game will likely take place in a feverish atmosphere and that will transmit to the players. So our second prediction for the Merseyside derby is for the passions to spill over onto the pitch and for one player to receive a red card.

2 Goals Ahead Early Payout Offer

bet365 2 Goals Ahead Early Payout Offer

One of the worst feelings when placing a football bet is when the team that you have backed has gone into a multiple-goal lead only to be clawed back to a draw or to lose the game in question. This is available in 80 different competitions including the major leagues across Europe and can be played on the full-time result market. Singles and multiples are both valid for this offer but you cannot bet on enhanced price markets. As with most promotions, if you cash out a bet in full, the bet will no longer be available for the offer in question. It also cannot be used if you bet on the draw on a game.
